Profile: Campus Staff The Campus Staff member is an evangelist who loves international students. But, this most fundamental ministry position within ISI may also be the most challenging, because it truly contains many of the joys and risks common to missionaries the world over. Consider the wide array of skills and talents needed, ranging from being a deep student of the Word of God and having a strong knowledge of several of the religions of the world, to having the abilities to win friends, influence and lead volunteers, and overcome and win the loyalty of sometimes hostile university officials. The great privilege of winning souls for Christ on U.S. campuses--along with its challenges--requires that the Campus Staff member be, above all, a person of deep and consistent prayer. Campus Staff also must have excellent organizational skills, and a willingness to seek out and involve American volunteers. A profile of the duties includes: Ministry to International Students: He or she works with the Director of City/Area Ministries and the Regional Directors to locate international students on campuses and then develop and implement a strategy to reach and disciple those students with the Gospel of Jesus.
Mobilizing American Volunteers: Campus Staff will also work with campus ministry team members to train and equip volunteers of local churches as Friendship Partners and to promote and coordinate the ISI ministry through churches and other ministry partnership organizations.
Diplomat and Relationship Builder: This person is the leader for establishing critical relationships with Foreign Student Advisors and university/college authorities, who are often the gatekeepers to the international student body. Without winning the trust and loyalty of these all-important officials, access to international students on campus is limited. Therefore, outstanding people skills, diplomacy, and an overriding servant's attitude must be prevalent in the Campus Staff for this critical duty. How do you know if you would be successful Campus Staff? Ask yourself these important questions: - Am I driven by a desire to see others reached with the Gospel of Jesus?
- Am I drawn to initiate relationships with strangers of other cultures?
- Do I know about and respect other cultures and their religious beliefs?
- Am I able to work alone for extended periods and with no apparent results for a while?
- Do I enjoy initiating, creating and building programs from the start?
- Am I known for my skillful use of tact with others having opposing views?
- Do I enjoy working with a team, as opposed to being independent?
- Do I get fulfillment from seeing and enabling others to grow?
- Do I have wisdom and discernment when it comes to reading strangers and the "politics" of communities or organizations?
Are you challenged by the above? Do you feel these questions describe your passion and abilities? If so, God may be calling you to be Campus Staff for ISI and to become part of one of the most strategic and replicating forms of world missions facing the American church today!
