Volunteer Jobs for Americans  

International Students, Inc. Santa Cruz

Volunteer Opportunities

Friendship Partner -- meet with student at least once monthly for friendship, on your own schedule. You can invite for dinner, take shopping, include in normal famiy acivities, etc.

Conversation partner --  meet weekly to help student practicer English conversation. Usually for an hour once a week or two. Can meet them on campus, at a cafe, or in your home.

Professional in Partnership -- friendship with a student in your career field, give advice

(no financial or academic sponsorship!)

 

Prayer team -- commit to praying for ISI ministry requests sent in bi-weekly emails,

 

Financial Donor support for ministry expenses and full-time staff (click Donate) webpage at left)

 

Practical Help

donate furniture (used in good condition is fine) donate through Love INC

help deliver furniture, help with Love In the Name of Christ,  to help students move furniture (need van or truck)

coordinate furniture (Glenna Roukes now active) deliveries, store furniture (few days – few weeks?)

 

Temporary Housing, 1-3 days

Airport pickup

drive students to ISI events or errands around town

Mini-tour of Santa Cruz

Shopping (food or clothing) tour of Santa Cruz

 

Friendship Activities:

coordinate a  Friendship Activity (plan, attend activitiy, meet with ISI planning team before event) 

phone calls to remind students& Americans of activities (once a month, can do as many student calls as desired)

put up posters on campus of ISI activities (takes 1 - 2 hours by car) one or more times/year

welcome table on campus (up to 3 days in Sept. Oct. to recruit students)

Host Friendship Activity (monthly ISI prayer/planning meeting)

childcare on-site during activities (one or more times/year)

bring food for friendship Activities or Bible study (one time for events during the year)

musician to accompany Bible study (every 2 weeks, currently Wed. evening)

teach student to play musical instrument (on your own schedule)

 

Clerical:

stuff envelopes for student mailings (can do once or 3 times/year)

design & print flyers (ongoing through the year)

stuff envelopes for  newsletter mailing to Americans (two mailings  a year sent,)

 

Volunteer Coordinators

Church Team Leader: communicate with your church about ISI news, recruitment of volunteers, help followup with volunteers.

Volunteer Followup:  communicate with volunteers by phone/email to find how they can help ISI ministry with above tasks

 

 1hour15 min. Orientation required for most American volunteers—Strategy of ISI ministry, cross cultural hospitality, how to share our faith appropriately
