International Students, Inc. Santa Cruz
What is the Classic 100 Golf Marathon? It is an incredibly fun event, which will raise some serious bucks for International Students, Inc. Santa Cruz. It is a way for golfers, both duffer and low handicapper alike, to rally support for this great ministry while doing something they will really enjoy - playing golf. When compared to a traditional golf tournament, golf marathons are more fun and substantially more profitable. WHY are we doing this for International Students, Inc. Santa Cruz? ISI is the most strategic Christian ministry in the world! ISI Santa Cruz has one staff and more than 100 volunteers who have been ministering for more than 18 years to hundreds of international students/scholars/families at UCSC, Cabrillo and Bethany. ISI's budget was reduced this year to about 1/3 of their need for one full time staff. Nationwide ISI has thousands of volunteers sharing Christ's love with 700,000 college/university undergrads, Masters and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and professors from nations all over the world, now at U.S. colleges. Most return to home countries in leadership positions, making huge impact on their people. While they are right here in Santa Cruz., we have a window of opportunity in their lives to extend hospitality and friendship in Christ's name. Here's the Fun Part Yes, you will play 100 holes. No, we're not kidding. One hundred holes are very doable. Many golfers in past marathons have been able to play more than 100 holes. In fact, the record for a golf marathon is an amazing 437 holes in one day! Several changes in the format of the game are made to speed up the play... - Carts are provided for all golfers, and each group plays at their own speed
- We play "ready golf" with a maximum field of 40 golfers
- Scramble format playing 2 or 3 balls on each hole adding up to 50 holes played for each round
- On the green, any putt inside the leather is a "gimme."
- Longest Drive and Closest-to-Pin contests all-day long
What's In It for Me? Besides a lot of fun and the satisfaction of helping International Students Inc. Santa Cruz in a big way, you will receive... - Breakfast, Lunch and continuous refreshments throughout the day.
- A very nice Tee Prize.
- The opportunity to earn some great prizes, depending on the amount of pledges that you have raised.
- Prizes for Longest Drive and Closest-to-Pin.
- A tax write-off for any donated funds.
Ok, What's the Catch? Well, there really isn't any catch. Each golfer who participates in the Golf Marathon will be required to do three things. - Give A Day & Play golf at the golf course. Shotgun start right after breakfast.
- Sponsor yourself for at least $1 per hole. Your $100 donation is payable in advance and is tax deductible.
- Solicit sponsorships from business associates and friends with a goal of raising an additional $9 per hole...that amounts to $1,000 each golfer can raise for this most worthwhile cause. So, you can see with a field of 20 golfers, each raising $1000, we could reach our minimum goal of $20,000. WOW!
Ok, "Gimme" the Details The ISI Santa Cruz Golf Marathon will be played on Thursday, September 23 at the Spring Hills Golf Club, Watsonville, with the location details to follow in upcoming newsletters. The Marathon will give you a very rare opportunity to play on a golf course, almost by yourself, and complete the equivalent of a month's worth of golf in one day! Our day's agenda will be something like this... - Breakfast at sun up
- Shotgun start - first round
- Break for Lunch
- Shotgun start - second round
- Awards Celebration
- Go home, soak your muscles, and rub on some Ben Gay!
- Smile a lot - you've done a great thing today!
Did You Say I Could Win Some Great Prizes? Yep! All participants who acquire sponsorship equal to or greater than our requested $10 per hole can reap the following.... - For sponsorship of $10 per hole - A Gift Card in the amount of $50
- For the Most Dollars Raised over $1,000:
- 1st Prize - A Gift Card in the amount of $200
