IWC Activities

The International Women's Connection (IWC) was established in 1987 expressly to help meet the needs of international women. Women may have needs for friendship and help in adjusting to life in this culture.

The IWC is a friendship program for international women, which meets every Wednesday morning. Childcare is provided.

FREE ENGLISH CLASS 9:00-10:00AM, Every Thursday : This is a practical, conversational class for anyone who wants to improve their English.

OUR ENGLISH TEACHERS :

Sue Dewing earned both her B.S. and M.S. degrees from UIUC in mathematics and loves Champaign-Urbana so much that she has moved here 3 separate times.  She has more than 10 years of teaching experience, including one year teaching English in Harbin, China.  She and her husband keep busy with their three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son.  She loves learning to cook new foods from other countries, traveling, reading and meeting new people.

Becka Warner, 30 is married and has a 2-year old boy. She earned an AA degree in inter-cultural studies, while studying in three continents. She has 3 years of English teaching experaince in Tanzania, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the USA. She loves being outdoors, drinking a good cup of coffee or tea with friends and learning about new cultures.

FRIENDSHIP PROGRAM 10:00-11:30AM, Every Thursday :  Various activities include survival facts for life in Champaign-Urbana, (shopping, transportation, education, etc.), international cooking, practice in reading English, and discussions of what Christmas means around the world. See calender below.

LOCATION: Twin City Bible Church, at the corner of Lincoln Ave. and Michigan Ave. in Urbana.

CHILD CARE

For all or any of our meetings, you are welcome to bring your children with you. We have a baby sitter to stay and play with the children in a playroom nearby. Only babies that can be held by their mothers can stay with their mothers. If you do use the baby sitter, we ask for a donation of $1.00 each week if possible.

PARKING

There is a small parking lot located behind the church. The entrance to the parking lot  is only accessible from Michigan Ave. Some street parking is available, but you must obtain a parking sticker from us first. In order to avoid a parking ticket you MUST have a parking sticker. If you need a sticker please ask when you arrive.
