Every year about ninety international military officers, many who come with their families, representing eighty plus allied countries attend the U.S. Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Ft. Leavenworth. The officers that attend this college represent the very best military talent from our country and these allied nations.
Up to fifty percent of these officers go onto be Heads of State or high-ranking government officials. Within the third world countries this number rises to eighty percent. This often happens within a matter of years after they attend CGSC. Some recent examples are the President of Bahrain, the President of Indonesia, and the Defense Minister of Georgia. Most of the remaining officers go onto reach General staff levels within their country’s militaries.
Each international officer receives three sponsors – a military sponsor, a Leavenworth sponsor, and a Kansas City sponsor. These are like ISI’s American Friendship Partners.
ISI was approached several years ago by the commanding officer within the International Military Student’s office of the CGSC with the request that ISI play a part in helping them find good, loving sponsors for the international officers.
In Kansas City, the Greater Kansas City People to People (GKCPTP) (right click to open a new web page so you don't lose the ISI webpage) organization is responsible for finding American sponsors for the international officers and is the sponsoring organization for this program.
