GARAGE GIVEAWAY FOR NEW INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
August 21, from 1:00pm-3:30pm during the International Student Orientation week at Central United Methodist Church, 5144 Oak Street, just across the street from the Law School. It is first come, first serve, so come at 1pm if you can. Everything goes quickly! We want to welcome you to Kansas City by inviting you to a free event to help you get a few of the things you need to furnish your new apartment. The name, "Garage Giveaway" is an adaptation of something common in America: "garage sales." A garage sale is the sale of used household items at a person's home, often held in the garage or on the front porch. The items are usually sold at a very reduced price because they are used. Some are in like-new condition. In our "garage giveaway," the items are free to new international students. We want to assist you in getting settled in your new apartment in Kansas City. Since we couldn't find a garage big enough, we will hold the giveaway in a large room in a nearby church. These and other similar items will be given away: · Furniture, lamps, desks · Dishes, pots & pans, kitchen utensils · Sheets, blankets, towels, pillows · Pictures, baskets, houseplants, miscellaneous items **Once a student obtains items from the Garage Giveaway the student is responsible for these items when they leave Kansas City. ISI is not responsible for removing these items. If you are an American and you want to learn more about how you can get involved helping with the Garage Giveaway, read under Volunteer Opportunities and then read more. We need you! If you are a student and have needs in some of these areas and the Garage Giveaway has passed, please let us know what your needs are. We will provide items as they come available. Unfortunately, we can not promise that we can meet the need, but we will try! If you are an American and have some of the major items that students need, please let us know. Let us know if you can help provide transportation of the items. Let us know if you would like to help us in transporting items that others donate! We are always in need of this kind of help.
