The World at Our Door

Food, Friends and Fruit At Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is an exciting time of year for international student ministry. It is a truly “American” holiday; one that allows us to

share not only our most treasured holiday traditions (like football and shopping), but also the reasons we give thanks to

our loving, faithful God. This past Saturday, we saw God’s hand at work in a myriad of ways at our Thanksgiving Outreach.

First, there was the food. We had about 15 volunteers from six different churches bring corn and green bean casseroles, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, turkey and stuffing in ridiculous quantities. Second, there was the friendship. It was great to see new volunteers talking with students and sharing the things they are thankful for. One of our friends from The Point, Pastor Thomas Wong, shared his testimony of how he had found freedom from resentment through his faith in Christ. Finally, there was fruit. One student, “Claire,” was especially moved by Thomas’s testimony and spoke to him for about 30 minutes after he spoke. Through tears, she expressed that she longs for the same freedom he has. Later, she gave her life to Christ and began walking as His child. We give thanks to God for the spiritual fruit He is bringing as we disciple the nations He has brought to us.

Christmas Fellowship on December 17th

We look forward to a priceless opportunity to share the message of Christmas with our international friends. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." What a powerful message that is unique to the Christian faith. Pray that God would speak to the hearts of students through the music and devotional that we have planned for this evening.

Our Monthly Support

We want to send a heartfelt "thank you" to those of you who have been praying that God would provide our full financial support for the ministry to international students. God has had us on an incredible journey of faith stretching and waiting on Him these past three years. Even though our faith has been tested and wavered on numerous occasions, God has proven that He is faithful to provide what is needed to do His work. Over 11 days in September, we received $975 in new monthly commitments to our financial support. The most unexpected one was from a church in Branson, MO that is committing to support us on the recommendation of our PD coach alone. The addition of these monthly commitments from individuals and churches along with some adjustments that we made to our budget meant that ISI released us for full-time ministry at Rutgers in September, 2011.  We are dependent on the gifts of God's people to fulfill our calling to make Christ known to the internationals at Rutgers and beyond. There are certain months of the year where our giving decreases due to changes with our individual donors and the giving cycles of supporting churches. Please also pray to see if God may be calling you to join our financial support team!  There are many options for giving.  If you are able to give, please click here:  www.isiwebnet.net/sites/DavidMannon/GiveOnline
